Carrie Thomson

I come from a large military family and joined the AMU photography club while obtaining my Masters in Emergency and Disaster Management (Graduated in 2022).  I currently work full time as  a BSN in an Emergency Department in Western Massachusetts.  When I am not wrapped up with work, to decompress I enjoy music and outdoor activities.  While out in nature I find myself randomly taking pictures,  I am not sure if it is just luck, or if I have a good eye but I have never taken a photography class and take pictures just with a cell phone camera.

Yvonne Zdanowski

Yvonne has been a member of the photography club since she started working towards her degree in psychology at APU in January 2023. She loves photography and has been taking photos since she was given a compact film camera when she was 9 years old (the camera has been upgraded since :-).

She is a military spouse and holds the position of webmaster for the AMU/APU Military Spouses Club chapter. Yvonne was recently awarded the inaugural 2023 Military Spouse Student Leadership Award for her positive impact in the military spouse community.

Spring 2025

Timothy Small is a junior at American Military University, pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Based in Central Pennsylvania, Timothy discovered his passion for photography three years ago during a hike through the red rock landscapes of Sedona, Arizona. That moment sparked a fascination with how composition and perspective can transform the way we see the world.

Specializing in landscape and automotive photography, Timothy sees the camera not just as a tool, but as a reason to get out, explore, and seek new experiences. For him, photography is a gateway to adventure. A opportunity to capture the essence of places and moments that others might overlook. He believes every photo tells a story, and that each photographer brings a unique vision worth sharing.

In addition to his creative pursuits, Timothy has served in the National Guard for six years. During his service, he took on the role of Unit Public Affairs Representative (UPAR), where he developed a passion for visual storytelling of service members and their duties. Documenting the lives, experiences, and service of his fellow soldiers, and highlighting the value of community and civic duty.

Looking forward, Timothy hopes his work inspires others to step beyond their comfort zones—to travel more, explore the unfamiliar, and see the world through a different lens. He also encourages fellow photographers to push their boundaries and explore new styles, knowing that each person’s perspective adds to the richness of the photographic community.
